Important information on extensive construction work on local transport: December 2024 to February 2025
In the period from December 2024 to February 2025, extensive construction work will be carried out on several sections of track in the VRR area, which will restrict train services.
The details are given below:
Lines RE 4, RE 16, RE 34, RB 40, S 5: Hagen Hbf - Dortmund Hbf route:
Friday, 27.12.2024 to 31.12.2024 and Saturday, 22.02.2025 to Sunday, 23.02.2025:
- Trains on the RE 4 line will be cancelled between Dortmund Hbf and Hagen Hbf. Rail replacement buses will run between Dortmund Hbf and Hagen Hbf.
- Trains on the RE 16 line do not stop in Wetter (Ruhr). Buses from the rail replacement service will run between Witten Hbf and Hagen Hbf.
- Trains on the RE 34 line do not stop at Witten Hbf. Buses of the rail replacement service run between Dortmund Hbf and Witten Hbf. In addition, buses from the rail replacement service will run in the direction of Dortmund between Hohenlimburg and Witten Hbf and in the direction of Siegen between Witten Hbf and Letmathe.
- Trains on the RB 40 line will be cancelled between Witten Hbf and Hagen Hbf. Rail replacement buses will run between Witten Hbf and Hagen Hbf.
- Trains on the S 5 line are cancelled between Witten Hbf and Hagen Hbf. Buses from the rail replacement service operate between Witten Hbf and Hagen Hbf.
Lines RE 4, RE 13, S 8, S 28: Düsseldorf main station - Düsseldorf-Gerresheim/Wuppertal-Vohwinkel route:
Friday, 03.01.2025 (9 pm) to Friday, 10.01.2025 (9 pm):
- Trains on the RE 4 line will be cancelled between Düsseldorf Hbf and Wuppertal-Vohwinkel. Buses will run as rail replacement services between Düsseldorf Hbf and Wuppertal-Vohwinkel.
- Trains on the RE 13 line are cancelled between Düsseldorf Hbf and Wuppertal-Vohwinkel. Buses will run between Düsseldorf Hbf and Wuppertal-Vohwinkel.
- Trains on the S 8 line are cancelled between Düsseldorf Hbf and Düsseldorf-Gerresheim. Buses will run in rail replacement service between Düsseldorf Hbf and Düsseldorf-Gerresheim.
- Trains on the S 28 line are cancelled between Düsseldorf Hbf and Düsseldorf-Gerresheim. Buses will run between Düsseldorf Hbf and Düsseldorf-Gerresheim as a rail replacement service.
Lines RE 3, RE 4, RE 6 (RRX), RE 11 (RRX), RE 19, S 1, S 6, S 11: Düsseldorf Hbf - Duisburg Hbf/Oberhausen Hbf route:
Monday, 20/01/2025 (05:00) to Friday, 21/02/2025 (21:00):
- Trains on the RE 3 line will be cancelled between Oberhausen Hbf and Düsseldorf Hbf. Passengers should use the parallel RE 5 line (RRX).
- The airport train on the RE 4 line is cancelled between Düsseldorf Hbf and Düsseldorf Airport Terminal. Passengers should use the parallel RE1 ) and RE 5 (RRX) lines as well as the Skytrain.
- Trains on the RE 6 (RRX) line will be diverted between Neuss Hbf and Duisburg Hbf and will have cancelled stops at Düsseldorf-Bilk, Düsseldorf Hbf and Düsseldorf Flughafen. Passengers should use the RE 4 line between Düsseldorf Hbf and Neuss Hbf and the Re 1 (RRX) and RE 5 (RRX) lines between Düsseldorf Hbf and Duisburg Hbf.
- Trains on the RE 11 (RRX) line will be cancelled between Düsseldorf Hbf and Düsseldorf Flughafen Terminal. The trains will terminate at Düsseldorf Airport Terminal. The Düsseldorf Airport stop will be cancelled. As an alternative connection, passengers should use the RE 1 (RRX) and RE 5 (RRX) lines between Düsseldorf Airport and Düsseldorf Central Station.
- Trains on the RE 19 line will be diverted between Düsseldorf Hbf and Duisburg Hbf and will not stop at Düsseldorf Airport. Passengers should use the parallel RE 1 (RRX) and RE 5 (RRX) lines.
- Trains on the S 1 line will be cancelled between Düsseldorf Hbf and Düsseldorf-Unterrath. Buses will run as rail replacement services between Düsseldorf main station and Düsseldorf-Unterrath.
- Trains on the S 6 line are cancelled between Düsseldorf Hbf and Ratingen Ost. Buses will run in rail replacement service between Düsseldorf Hbf and Ratingen Ost.
- Trains on the S 11 line are cancelled between Düsseldorf Hbf and Düsseldorf Flughafen Terminal. Buses will run between Düsseldorf Central Station and Düsseldorf Airport Terminal.
RE 1 (RRX), RE 6 (RRX), RE 11 (RRX), RE 16, RE 41, RB 32, RB 40, RB 46, S2: route Essen Hbf - Bochum Hbf - Dortmund Hbf
Friday, 28/02/2025 until Friday, 25/04/2025
- Trains on the RE 1 (RRX) line will be diverted between Dortmund Hbf and Essen Hbf. The trains will also stop in Herne. There will be cancelled stops in Bochum Hbf and Wattenscheid. Please use the underground line U 35 between Bochum Hbf and Herne.
- Trains on the RE 6 (RRX) line will be cancelled between Essen Hbf and Dortmund Hbf. Trains coming from Düsseldorf will terminate at Essen Hbf. The stop at Mülheim (Ruhr) Hbf will be cancelled. Trains coming from Minden will terminate at Dortmund Hbf.
- Trains on the RE 11 line (RRX) will be cancelled between Duisburg Hbf and Dortmund Hbf. Trains coming from Düsseldorf will terminate at Oberhausen Hbf. Trains coming from Kassel-Wilhelmshöhe will terminate at Dortmund Hbf.
- Trains on the RE 16 line are cancelled between Essen Hbf and Hagen Hbf.
- Trains on the RB 40 line are cancelled between Essen Hbf and Witten Hbf.
- Trains on the RB 46 and RE 41 lines are cancelled between Bochum West and Bochum Hbf.
- Trains on the S 1 line are cancelled at weekends between Essen Hbf and Dortmund Hbf. From Monday to Friday, the line will run as scheduled on this section.
- The RB 32 line will run as scheduled between Duisburg Hbf and Gelsenkirchen Hbf. From Gelsenkirchen, the line runs on the same route and timetable as the S2 to Dortmund Hbf.
- The S2 line runs as a shuttle service between Essen Hbf and Gelsenkirchen Hbf. The branch to/from Recklinghausen Hbf runs to Dortmund Hbf as scheduled.
- In addition, there will be cancelled stops between Dortmund Hbf and Hamm (Westf) Hbf, only the stop in Kamen can be called at. For the intermediate stops, use the RE 3 line during the day. In the evening hours, a replacement bus service will run between Hamm (Westf) and Dortmund Hbf.
There will be an additional replacement bus service between Essen Hbf - Wattenscheid - Bochum Hbf - Dortmund Hbf for the entire period.
A replacement bus service will also run between Essen Hbf - Wattenscheid - Bochum West - Bochum Hbf - Witten Hbf.
At weekends, an additional replacement bus service will run on the route of the S 1 line between Essen Hbf and Dortmund Hbf.
There may also be additional night-time closures on some sections.

The timetable changes are included in the VRR and DB online timetable information before the start of the construction work.
Tickets are not available on the buses. Tickets for buses and trains can be purchased online via the app or at the stations (not at the bus stops) from the ticket machines or in the customer centres.
