Shortage of skilled labour leads to restrictions in local rail passenger transport

Due to staff shortages at the railway companies and a lack of vehicle availability, there will also be restrictions in the timetable in the coming weeks.

Shortage of skilled labour leads to restrictions in regional rail transport

There are currently timetable adjustments on the following lines:

Line S 3:

  • Until the timetable change in mid-December, this line will only run hourly on weekends along the entire route (Oberhausen - Mülheim - Essen - Hattingen). Scheduled operation is planned for Mondays to Fridays.

Line S 5:

  • During the autumn holidays (12.10. to 27.10.): The line will only run every hour daily on the entire route (Dortmund - Witten - Hagen). The 30-minute interval between Dortmund and Witten will therefore be cancelled.
  • Period 02.11. to 14.12.: The line only runs hourly on the complete route (Dortmund - Witten - Hagen) at weekends. The 30-minute interval between Dortmund and Witten is therefore cancelled. Scheduled operation is planned for Mondays to Fridays.

Line S 28:

  • The Mettmann - Wuppertal section will be served by buses during the day on Mondays to Fridays until further notice. Trains are not expected to run between Düsseldorf Hbf and Neuss Hbf until 24 October; please use lines S 8 and S 11. The Neuss Hbf - Kaarster See section will be served by buses due to construction work.

Line S 68:

  • This line will not be running until further notice. Please switch to lines S 6 and S 8.

RE 4 line:

  • The morning and afternoon peak-period services from Aachen to Düsseldorf will not be running until further notice.

RE 11 line (RRX):

  • The Düsseldorf - Hamm section cannot be operated daily until 3 November.
  • Subsequently, the section will not be served at weekends until the timetable change on 15 December 2024. On weekdays, 6 pairs of journeys per direction are still planned.
  • Scheduled operation is planned for the Hamm - Kassel section.

RE 14 line:

  • Until further notice, trains cannot be winged in Dorsten. Passengers travelling to/from Coesfeld must change trains in Dorsten.

RE 19 line:

  • One journey during peak hours in the morning from Emmerich to Düsseldorf and back in the afternoon will not run until at least 31 October.

RE 47 line:

  • The line will be served by buses until further notice.

Line RB 39:

  • The morning and afternoon peak hour services between Grevenbroich and Neuss Hbf will not run until the timetable change in December.
  • Most off-peak journeys between Neuss Hbf and Düsseldorf Hbf will also be cancelled.
  • Since the end of September, continuous journeys to/from Düsseldorf have been available again at peak times.
