VRR schools are committed to the climate in the NRW school cycling competition
95,313 schoolchildren, parents and teachers took part in this year's "School Cycling" state competition - a clear signal in favour of climate-friendly mobility from young people in NRW and other participants.
VRR schools are committed to the climate in the NRW school cycling competition
During the three-week competition period, the participants cycled a total of 11.7 million kilometres, around 200,000 kilometres more than last year. This means that they avoided up to 1,900 tonnes of CO2 compared to other means of transport. But it remains exciting: the best-placed school teams will only find out who is on the winner's podium in the competition at the awards ceremony on 20 November this year in the Adventure Halls in Cologne.
"School Cycling" in NRW is coordinated by the office of Zukunftsnetz Mobilität NRW, the state-wide network for the development of municipal mobility management, whose Rhine-Ruhr coordination office is based at VRR . With currently 332 members, its aim is to promote sustainable mobility services in the state. You can find out more about the structure and organisation of Zukunftsnetz Mobilität NRW here.
