The DeutschlandTicket School is now available

At the latest when they move on to secondary school, many pupils want to travel to school independently and also take the first bus and train journeys on their own in their free time.

Our ticket offer for pupils in VRR

Schools in the VRR area offer either the SchokoTicket or the DeutschlandTicket Schule.

The school authorities decide which ticket is issued at your child's school. You can find out about this at the relevant school authority. For the time being, however, the DeutschlandTicket Schule is only available for the school year 2023/2024.

The services of the tickets at a glance

DeutschlandTicketSchule

  • 29,00 € per month by subscription
  • If the journey to the nearest school is longer than 3.5 km, you may be entitled to travel expenses. For primary school pupils, this already applies from 2 km. For upper secondary school pupils, the limit is 5 km. Please contact the relevant school secretary's office directly to check your entitlement and to submit a corresponding application. If the DeutschlandTicket Schule is lost, you can obtain a new chip card for the school ticket for a fee of €10.00 from the transport company with which you have taken out the subscription.

Own contributions for entitled persons

Families whose children are entitled to have their travel costs covered by the school authorities pay a personal contribution of 14 euros for the first child and 7 euros for the second child per month and ticket for a DeutschlandTicket School. Full-age children in a family are not taken into account in this count and then pay the same fare as for the first eligible child in any case. From the 3rd child onwards and for children for whom ongoing assistance for subsistence is provided, no own contribution is charged.

The DeutschlandTicket Schule can be cancelled free of charge at any time on the 10th of the month.

All pupils from primary school to secondary level 2, provided that their place of residence or school location is in the VRR area. The school authority decides whether a DeutschlandTicket school is issued.

Own contributions for entitled persons

The own contributions of the ticket users for the SchokoTicket are laid down in the Schülerfahrkostenverordnung NRW.
Families whose children are entitled to have their travel costs paid by the school authorities pay a contribution of 14 euros per month and ticket for the first child and 7 euros per month and ticket for the second child. Full-age children in a family are not taken into account in this count and then pay the same fare as for the first eligible child in any case. Discount for self-payers from the third child onwards

Families without a travel allowance receive a sibling discount of 50 per cent on the third active SchokoTicket contract for the third child. From the fourth active self-paying contract onwards, the SchokoTicket is even free of charge. With the innovations around the SchokoTicket, VRR meets the political demand of the VRR parliamentary groups to also offer self-paying families with several children the ticket at attractive conditions. The offer for schoolchildren becomes fairer overall.

The SchokoTicket can be cancelled at any time. This way, pupils can convince themselves of the advantages of the ticket. If the SchokoTicket does not suit your mobility, you can simply cancel it by the end of the month. The subscription period is extended by another month unless the transport company receives notice of cancellation by the last day of the current month.

All pupils under 25 years of age from primary school to secondary level 2, provided that their place of residence or school location is in the VRR area.
